The town of Duisburg with more than 585.000 inhabitants is 1.000 years old and thanks its prosoerity the industry of coal and steal.
The mouth of the Ruhr in the Rhine made the development of Duisburg Ruhrort to the biggest inland port of the world possible. Besides them Duisburg ist the biggest European steal producing town and has got an university for a few years. Duisburg is also the transmission to the left side of the lower Rhine as the most western town of the Ruhr - district. Holland is not far away.

The tramway corporation of Duisburg got for a long time the only tram car of the world with a diner car.
